When sourcing for apple cider vinegar, you should buy only organic apple cider vinegar. The non organic apple cider vinegar contains chemicals which will be absorbed into your body and could make your acne problem worse. More importantly, make sure you test it before use. Put a little under your chin and leave it for 15 minutes or so. If you have no reaction then you are not allergic. You can apply apple cider vinegar directly on your acne skin. But if you find it too strong for your acne skin, you can try mixing it with water, starting with a low amount of vinegar and then increasing the ratio. For a start go with a 5:1 ratio and move it up to full strength if your skin does not get irritated. Sympathy Flower Gifts

April 7th, 2008 by amarjitmirek

By Marcus Peterson Flowers have a universal appeal that makes them suitable for every occasion, whether joyous or sorrowful. People send sympathy flower gifts to their friends or relatives to offer their heartfelt condolence. The simple beauty of fresh daisies is ideal to convey heartfelt sympathies to a family mourning the loss of a beloved member. There are floral artists who gather these white daisies and beautifully arrange them in a rustic handled basket. It is a classic way to send sincere thoughts of sympathy to family or friends. People prefer to express their heartfelt sympathy in times of sorrow with fresh flowers. They may be an arrangement of buds that may bloom and wither naturally. Their beauty and aesthetic value has an emotional impact on people. People commonly need them for decorative, traditional and spiritual purposes. When fresh flowers are used for funeral purposes, they symbolize solidarity in times of sorrow. Florists may create a special sympathy arrangement in a cane basket. It includes fresh long-stemmed roses with crisp foliage. The florists may create a tasteful arrangement of fresh floral favorites such as roses, lilies, snapdragons and alstroemeria and present them in a classic glass vase as a true expression of sincere sympathy. Whether it is a bouquet or wreath, white is a popular funeral flower color as it signifies peace. Most flowers used are self-expressive as a result of their colors. Yellow, blue and red are common choices as well. Most fresh flower arrangements for funerals go together with small sympathy notes. This allows grieving family members to identify visitors once the actual funeral is over. Fresh flowers for funerals are expressly delivered. Most florists follow basic wreath patterns that are modified in case of special requirement. Fresh flowers will always lift the spirits of a bereaved family and are the best way to offer condolences. How To Indulge And Win The Battle Of The Bulge During The Holidays

April 6th, 2008 by amarjitmirek

By Joey Dweck If you are trying to lose weight, the holidays literally are the heaviest time of the year. So how do you eat, drink and be merry while youre counting every single calorie? By getting a buddy who will help you make the right choices bite by bite. Scientific studies have shown that people who diet with partners are much more likely to lose weight and to keep it off. And theres no more crucial time to have a buddy on your side than from Thanksgiving to New Years. During the holidays, you can use all the help you can get, says Alan Gettis, a nutritionist and clinical psychologist in River Edge, N.J. I urge my clients to get a full-time year-round a buddy, it could be a husband or a wife, a neighbor or a friend. I But dont wait for the first feast to find a buddy, says Susan Holmberg, a nutritionist and behavioral therapist in Oradell, N.J. Once you start overeating, you dont want a Buddy, she says. Buddies give you moral support and help you identify bad eating habits and patterns because they have been there, too, she says. You may want to have more than one buddy, she says. You can have one on the phone and one who exercises with you and goes to parties with you. You can make deals with your buddy where you both go to the party but only one of you goes through the buffet line or where you agree to split one meal. Buddies also are like therapists and coaches, who listen to you and keep you on the right path. Your buddy should be a person you can share your feelings with and rely on in a pinch without fear that your feelings will be used as ammunition against you, Gettis says. Holmberg says that using a Buddy is particularly helpful to people who may be reluctant to change because those who sign on can choose a either real-life buddy, someone in their geographical area they can meet and exercise with, or select someone to work with solely online or via the phone. Sometimes anonymity is good, she says. You are much more likely to try it if you dont have to meet the person. Gettis points out that with a Buddy, you can find someone with similar goals, and both of you can support each other. Buddies also take on active roles, getting you to stop a bad habit and replace it with a healthy one. Gettis likens the process to a marathon, where the runners are tempted to give up before the 26th mile because it is so difficult to stay the course. The 18- to 19-mile mark is the crucial one, he says. During a marathon I was once in, I came upon two guys running one was hurting, and the other was encouraging him to keep running. I followed them for two to three miles, and the one kept saying, Leave me. The other kept saying, Im not going to. And I thought, What great friends! Then I heard the one hurting say, Whats your name? Perhaps the most important role that buddies play is helping plan strategies and then making sure that you make them work. They can teach you to take baby steps and to change your environment, Holmberg says. For instance, they may suggest that you keep sneakers in your trunk or put on your gym clothes as you leave the office so you dont have an excuse not to exercise. They can call ahead to the party to check on the menu and give you a low-cal recipe to bring so theres at least one thing that you can eat. Holmberg says that some of the changes are so simple that people overlook them. A buddy may, for instance, suggest that you get at the end of the buffet line so there is less food available or help the host wash dishes because if your hands are wet, you are less likely to nibble on the last remaining crumbs from the serving dishes. If you are asked to bring dessert, your buddy may remind you not to make chocolate chip cookies because the last time you ate a dozen cookies before you brought them to the party and nibbled the chips while baking and suggest that instead you make something like a pie that cant be nibbled because it is cut only when served. Buddies also can help you practice being assertive, not aggressive to make significant changes in your diet and your lifestyle. By being assertive, you attack the task, Gettis says. By being aggressive, you attack the person. You need to stand your ground and in a firm but angry voice say: I really would appreciate it if you would not bring home anything fattening. You may have had good intentions, but Id feel better if you didnt do it again. So dont wait until youre boxed in by back-to-back parties and surrounded by wall-to-wall goodies to find a buddy. Make an early New Years resolution to do it now, long before the marathon feasts begin, Gettis says. You have to be realistic, so dont count on losing 10 to 12 pounds during the holidays. Dont say youll lose 10 pounds during the holidays, and dont gain 10 either. And get someone to be your buddy for all 12 months of the year. You have nothing to lose but weight. How to Grow Blueberries

April 5th, 2008 by amarjitmirek

By Linda Jenkinson Along with lip-smacking sweetness, flower and foliage are also worthy reasons to grow blueberries. White, bell-shaped blossoms make a lovely addition to a spring garden and fiery scarlet foliage adds drama to a fading autumn landscape. In addition to taste and appearance, blueberries are ripe with medical advantages; they help lower cholesterol and studies suggest that blueberries also reduce the risk of some cancers. Types of Blueberries 1. Highbush blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum) are those usually found in the produce department of your grocery. As you might expect, they are named because the bushes grow to 6-feet in height. Fruits are large, from to an inch in diameter. Depending on variety, highbush blueberries are hardy from Zones 4 through 11. 2. Lowbush blueberries (Vaccinium angustifolium) generally reach no more than 18-inches in height. Propagated from shoots spread through underground runners, lowbush blueberries form low mats of plants that produce best on a two-year cycle. The first year is the growth year and the second year is the fruiting year. The sweet, quarter-inch fruits of lowbush blueberries commonly are known as Wild Blueberries and are hardy in Zones 3 through 6. 3. Half-high blueberries (V. corymbosum x V. angustifolium) are a hybrid between lowbush and highbush cultivars. Although shorter than high-bush blueberries, half-high grow in much the same way as their taller relatives. Taste and size meet halfway between highbush and lowbush. An extra advantage for the northern grower is that half-high blueberries were especially bred to withstand the heavy snowfalls and cold winters of inland North America and are hardy to Zone 3. 4. Rabbiteye blueberries (Vaccinium ashei), native to the Southeastern United States, are the tallest of the blueberry bushes, reaching up to 10-feet in height. Because of their thick skins, rabbiteye blueberries are able to withstand southern heat in zones seven through nine. Site Selection All types of blueberries grow best in full sun. Plants tolerate partial shade, but production declines as shade increases. Blueberries are shallow rooted and poor competitors against large rooted trees, shrubs, and weeds that compete for water, nutrients, and crowd airways necessary to good blueberry production. The most important element is growing blueberries is soil composition. To make the most of your blueberry planting, begin necessary soil amendments the year before planting. Blueberries grow best in loose, sandy loam. Although you may run across wild blueberries growing in a bog, on closer inspection youll see that plants grow on small, natural hills. Blueberries need moisture retentive, well-drained, humus-rich soil with good aeration. Soil acidity is also very important in growing blueberries. Plants need a pH of 4.0 to no more than 5.0 to thrive. Initially, bring the pH down to acceptable levels with sulphur or 4 to 6 inches of acid peat mixed into the first 6 to 8 inches of topsoil. Also, enrich soil with good organic compost. Planting blueberries Although most blueberries self-pollinate, plant two or more varieties within a type for a larger harvest of more voluptuous fruits. Five plants provide enough blueberries for fresh eating, drying, and preserving for a family of four. Plant blueberries in spring after all danger of frost passes. When growing several plants, you may find it easier to prepare a bed rather than digging holes for individual plants. Add a generous portion of peat moss to your trench or hole both to increase the organic content and to ensure continued soil acidity. Standard spacing for highbush, half-high, and rabbiteye bushes is five to six feet apart in rows eight to ten feet distant. Dig holes or make your row three to four inches deeper than the size of the root balls. Pack soil firmly around the roots of each plant. Plant lowbush varieties one to three feet apart in rows three to four feet distant. Cover about a third of the top stems with soil to encourage runners to develop. Once established, a blueberry bush may remain productive for decades with just a minimum of care. The second part of this article is available on the www.gardening-guides.com. Weight Loss - Is It Dangerous?

March 29th, 2008 by amarjitmirek

By Trash Hasson The key recipe for being healthy and feeling good about yourself is simple. Sometimes we just make it hard on ourselves. Reducing fats in the diet is the favorite option exercised by people trying to slim down. Low fat diets are healthy. Moderate fat restriction is healthy for various reasons. Fats are carriers for many fat-soluble vitamins that are essential to the body; fat free diets may be lacking in these. Certain fats like polyunsaturated fats are heart friendly as they increase levels of good cholesterol. Fats act as insulators and provide a cushioning effect around the body organs. Good eating habits pay off tremendous physical and psychological benefits. Plus, eating habits good or bad–get passed from generation to generation, currently leaving in their wake an unprecedented number of overweight youngsters. Taking control of your weight often dovetails with taking care of yourself nutritionally. A recent Gallop poll bears this out: 40 percent of people on high-protein diets regained all of their lost weight, compared with 15 percent of those who followed a standard, low-fat plan. Other Factors to Consider Fast Food is the leading culprit for the onslaught of disease and obesity. Processed Food is the evil step-twin to Fast Food just as bad if not worse because of even more preservatives. Do not eat a lot of bread, 1 or 2 toast per day, preferably 100% whole wheat is usually sufficient when balanced with the super compliments of an abundance of fruits and veggies. Pasta should be taken in moderation as large quantities of carbs can spike your blood sugar levels and increase your risk of diabetes. Watch your food consciously and your body will follow. Marriage Relationships

March 28th, 2008 by amarjitmirek

By Kent Pinkerton Marriage is regarded as a spiritual as well as an intimate bond between two people. In other words, it is a relationship between two people with two separate sets of views and feelings. In contrast to unmarried people who may be cohabiting, divorced, or single, married people enjoy many benefits in the form of higher degree of happiness, better physical and mental health, and improved financial position. But, a marriage relationship becomes fruitful only when the husband and wife face all challenges together, whether it is personal challenges, problems regarding raising children, dealing with family members, financial problems, or other daily pressures of life. Good marriage relationships are generally marked by honesty. They are based on a foundation of agreement, made up of commitment, honor, love, moral ethics and sacrifice. When a couple steps into marriage, it is important to understand that both of them owe obligations of mutual understanding, care and fidelity to each other. Requisites for a healthy marriage life also include matching up of couple’s ages, characters, lifestyles and views. In order to build lasting marriage relationships, it is important to observe effective communication, mutual trust, ability to overcome problems together, and giving each other the attention and respect that both deserve. It is advisable to spend some time with your spouse, either by doing exercise or taking leisurely walks together. It is also equally important to have sexual intimacy, as it can deepen marriage relationships. Above all, an ideal couple must have the ability to compromise on issues such as career, finance and children. Practices including date nights help to sustain an intimate bond between the two. To ensure healthy maintenance of marriage relationships, counseling programs or pre-marriage courses become relevant. At present, a lot of counseling firms provide special courses and programs for marriage help, love advice, relationship advice, relationship challenges, relationship counseling, relationship forums, relationship help, relationship problems and relationship skills. 10 Really Low-Cost Ways to Start Your Stamp Collection

March 24th, 2008 by amarjitmirek

By Joan Yankowitz Stamp collecting doesnt have to be an expensive hobby. You can enjoy collecting stamps with limited financial resources. Here are 10 really low-cost ways to start stamp collecting. 1. Ask your friends to use commemorative stamps on their mail when they write to you. Commemorative stamps are generally larger than regular stamps and are issued to honor famous people, places, or events. Because commemorative stamps are usually issued in lesser quantities than common smaller stamps, they are of much more interest to collectors. Tell your friends that you are a stamp collector and ask them to request commemorative stamps at the post office. 2. When you send away for offers that require postage or self-addressed, stamped envelopes, use commemorative stamps. Youll get them back when the envelopes are returned to you. 3. Ask your neighbors, friends, and relatives to save their used stamps for you. Youll find that most people will be happy to save their stamps for you when they learn that you are a collector. 4. If you know someone who gets letters from other countries, ask them to save those stamps. Always be on the lookout for potentially good stamp contacts, and don’t be afraid to ask them to go through their mail for you before they throw away all the envelopes. 5. Ask friends and family to save the envelopes from their office mail for you. Many businesses get a lot of foreign mail and regularly throw away stamps that have interest and value to a collector. 6. Ask your parents if they have any old letters with stamps on the envelopes. Dont peel the stamp off the envelope. This will cause thin spots or tears, both of which ruin a stamp’s appearance and lessen its value to collectors. Always tear off the envelope corner so that there is paper all around the stamp, and make sure that all of the perforations are undamaged. 7. If you know other stamp collectors, ask them if they have duplicates that they are willing to give or sell to you. Many collectors have thousands of duplicates and they are often willing to help get new philatelists get started by giving them stamps or by selling them packets of stamps much more cheaply than can be purchased in stores or by mail. 8. Look for free stamps advertised by stamp companies. Free stamps are often offered along with approvals, an assortment of other stamps that you must either buy or return. This can be a convenient way to buy stamps. Note, however, that you usually have to pay the return postage if you return the approval stamps. 9. Check out stamp clubs in your area. Clubs may offer stamps as prizes, or have inexpensive stamps you can afford to buy. Some stamp clubs sponsor junior clubs the local community center, YMCA, or schools. 10. Consider starting a stamp club if one doesnt already exist in your area. It only takes four or five other stamp collectors who are interested in getting together to learn about and trade stamps and ideas. With free stamps and a few inexpensive accessories, such as a small album and a package of stamp hinges, even collectors with little money can have a great time. So, what are you waiting for? 7 Tips To Avoid the College “Low Expectations” Game

March 22nd, 2008 by amarjitmirek

By Leanne Hoagland-Smith Many public universities play the “Low Expectation Game” (see article “College ‘Low Expectations Game’ Cost Students, Parents & Taxpayers Thousands of Dollars”). As a student or a parent, you can avoid this game using the following tips: Tip #1 Register for 15 hours. To graduate in 4 years, not 5 not 6, requires a minimum of 15 hours per semester. If you are having problems securing 15 hours, ask the following question: Since I am earning a 4-year degree, how can I do that only taking 12 hours per semester? If the universitys designated person continues to refuse your request for 15 hours, ask for his or her supervisor. By being proactive at this time, will save you thousands of dollars. Tip #2 Secure Your BINGO sheet. When registering, secure a copy of all the required courses that you will need for your field of study. In some colleges or universities, this is called a BINGO sheet. If you are unsure, look through the college course catalog and see what courses are required for your different interests. Register for those shared required courses. Tip #3 Keep all Course Schedules and Offerings. Universities publish the schedule of the courses for the next semester. Do not discard these publications. With many courses being only offered during the spring or fall, this is the only tool that you have to learn when a specific course is offered or who teaches a course. Keeping these schedules becomes even more critical when you are planning your junior and senior years. Tip #4 Plan Your Courses Now. With the BINGO sheet in hand, begin to plan the courses that you will take during the next 3.5 years. This plan will change due to course changes, degree changes, etc. However, this 4-year plan provides you with the BIG picture and then allows you to begin to take small bites. Tip #5 Plan Your Weekly Schedule. Plan your weekly schedule including study time, research time, etc. For each 3-hour course, expect to spend 2 to 4 hours per week. Some courses such as English Literature may require substantial reading. If you are a slower reader allow for more reading time. If you are only going to school for 15 hours per week, there is plenty of time to study before, in between and after your classes. Many baby boomer graduates worked full time jobs while taking 15 to 18 hours. Tip #6 Focus on Your Graduation Goal Date. Every additional semester that you spend in college is costing you a minimum of $20,000 - $5,000 tuition and $15,000 in loss earnings. All of your actions should be directed to achieving your graduate goal date. Tip #7 Make Wise Choices. You, and only you, are responsible for the choices that you make. For parents, set the expectation that you expect your daughter or son to graduate in 4 years. Students accept that expectation and run with it. If you are having trouble with time management, goal planning and achievement, studying skills, course content, decision making or problem solving, make a wise choice and find some solutions. Remember, by graduating in 4 years, you have an edge over those students who chose to play the Low Expectation Game and you can start the life that you dreamed only 4 years earlier.
