Has The Magic Gone From Your Relationship?

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

By Lesley Cordero Kathleen and Dan have been together for several years now. At first it was magic and Dan was so romantic and attentive. Now he is constantly criticizing her or even worse ignoring her completely. When hes not out with his friends he lays around the house watching T.V. expecting her to wait on him. Just when she thinks that she cant stand it any more, he becomes the old loving, romantic Dan once more; however, this never lasts longer than a few days and then he resumes his old behaviors. Kathleen knows that its time to for a life change but simply can not bring herself to take action. 1. What you see is what you get. We see or perceive the world based on what we choose to pay attention to and how we choose to interpret it. If you see yourself trapped, then you are If you see yourself as a victim, then you are You are responsible for what you are attracting into you life right now. Kathleen is attracting Dans abuse and neglect primarily because she doesnt have the respect for herself to create any boundaries as to how she expects and deserves to be treated. She is choosing to see herself as a victim, trapped in this relationship. Kathleen sees Dan as the problem; if only he would change then her life would be better. His behavior is rendering her powerless in her eyes. Choose what you are choosing to pay attention to and how you choose to interpret it. Choose carefully what you want to see. 2. We always have choices and the one with the most choices wins! Kathleen is choosing to accept Dans behavior and she really thinks that she has very little choice in the matter. Dan sees that he has an infinite number of choices at the moment and this has given him an enormous amount of power. He is very much like the puppet master pulling the strings. Choose to change your behavior by identifying more and better choices. 3. We have a good excuse for everything that we do. Every behavior is useful or valuable to us in some way. Kathleens submissive behavior is useful to her in that it reinforces her view of herself as a victim with no choices. Dans behavior is valuable to him as it reinforces his belief that he is master of his domain. Choose now to determine what is valuable for you in a situation. 4. We do what works for us. Everything that we think, feel and do works to produce the results in life that we are getting. Kathleens relationship with Dan is on some unconscious level helping her achieve exactly the results that she wants. Dont like what youve got, choose now to change what your doing. 5. You can literally do anything if you believe that you can. What does Kathleen believe about herself that requires her staying in an unhealthy relationship? What ever she believes she will always find lots of evidence in the world to support it. If she listened to her self talk every time she thinks about leaving Dan, she would soon find out what she believes. Ill never get someone new. Its better to put up with what Ive got Anything is better than being alone He is exactly what I deserve Hell change if Im patient, hes a good person underneath He really needs me, he just doesnt realize it I need him, without him, Im nothing Choose to examine your beliefs and change them. You created them; you can change them. Look for evidence in the world to support the new belief. 6. Act as if you already have what you want. If you really want to be loved then be loving, not only to others but also to yourself. If you want respect then be respectful, not only to others but also to yourself. Determine what it is that you really want to achieve then behave as if you already have it. If Kathleen wants a loving relationship based on mutual respect then she needs to model those essential qualities not only by how she treats others, including Dan, but also by how she treats herself. In Kathleens case if she was more loving and respectful of herself she would draw some definite boundaries as to how she expects to be treated. If she really loved and respected Dan then she would expect more from him as well. Does Your Business Appeal To $227 Billion Of ‘Lohas’ (Green) Consumers?

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

By Jaya Schillinger Are you wondering what LOHAS stands for? Don’t feel bad if you aren’t familiar with it yet. If you’re living in the SF Bay Area, you understand it more than you may know. LOHAS is a convenient marketing buzzword that stands for Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability. Simply put, it refers to the $227 billion dollar consumer market of people who want more consciousness in their day-to-day lives and are spending their money accordingly. This large subculture is detailed in the book, The Cultural Creatives by Paul Ray and Sherry Ruth Anderson. If you’re actively building a business in the alternative health, spa, or personal development fields, you’re probably in this demographic yourself, but either way, chances are good that a hefty percentage of your income comes from LOHAS consumers. This is not just a trend, but a massive change in the way that we all do business. The LOHAS Journal first coined the phrase, and attributes 5 key values to this group of people:Sustainable Economy Healthy Living Alternative Healthcare Personal Development Ecological Lifestyles In my opinion, the most important aspect of conducting business in this new marketplace is authenticity. People are so burnt out on hype and manipulation. The old-style marketing machine is still grinding away, but LOHAS consumers are demanding change. When more conscious consumers become conscious business owners, capitalism as we know it will change. If you’re already a business owner that has an inspired vision and wants to make a difference, this is your time! The new economy is much more about quality instead of “empty quantity”. By bringing more of your authentic values and passion into your work, you will not only feel more fulfilled, but you will be on the leading edge of this new age of conscious commerce. Whether you’ve been in business for awhile or are just starting out, it’s a good idea to reevaluate your practices to see if they fit with your values, especially as your business grows and changes:Are you performing services the way you want to serve, or simply like you were trained? Does your work environment inspire you to be creative? Are you still procrastinating on making time for eating right and working out, even though you’re in a health business yourself? Would it really be that inconvenient to start recycling your office paper? By making even small changes in the way your business runs, so that everything you do is aligned with your values, you’ll feel happier and healthier at work. Show your customers that you care about them and the environment, and they will also feel great about your work. Mahatma Gandhi said, “You must be the change you want to see in the world”. That’s exactly what you need to do to create a successful business within the LOHAS community. 10 Ways to Turn Off the LOHAS “Conscious Consumer”Using synthetic perfumes & detergents in your products or services Wasting paper by sending multi-page offers by mail Double-bagging or using too much packing materials Playing music with harsh language or aggressive beats Getting annoyed when they ask about ingredients Tell them what to do, instead of asking them what they want Rushing them to a close or not being willing to discuss their needs Not being willing to send them elsewhere, if they ask for a referral Outsourcing employment to socially irresponsible or unjust countries Marketing your products/services as “natural,” when they aren’t. Vinyl Decking

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

By Jason Gluckman Vinyl is an excellent option used for the flooring of the decks. A good looking deck offers a facelift to the house. Vinyl decking does not need periodic maintenance. There are numerous advantages of Vinyl over a wood surface. Vinyl surface won’t decompose, deform, or crack. It also would not break off, strip, swell up, or crumble. This is a one time expenditure which is surely an intelligent investment. This is a pioneering and stimulating system in deck architecture. These structures will have no nails and sharp edges which improves the safety. The existing deck surfaces can be replaced with vinyl planks. The vinyl sheets that are used for the flooring come with designs printed on them. These vinyl decks come pre-molded. There are numerous manufactures of vinyl decks. You can choose the one that you feel is the best. These decks can be easily installed on a selected surface. There is no need for a wood substructure. Some of the Vinyl deck structures come with a wood-like appearance too. They not only impart the look of natural wood but they are easier to maintain than wooden decks. Vinyl decking comes in variety of colors, styles and finishes. There are also numerous patterns and textures. These structures give the deck waterproofing. Vinyl decks also have low maintenance. This is a decking of high quality with low costs. The Vinyl decking is made from entirely recycled materials which are highly eco- friendly. This type of decking adds value to your assets. The most important advantage of Vinyl decking is its slip resistant surface. Vinyl decking will add long term value to your property. Vinyl decking does not need annual sealing. Eczema: Tips On How To Care For Your Skin

Monday, December 17th, 2007

By Dr. Rita Louise Eczema can best be described as a non-contagious skin condition, which is characterized by hot dry itchy skin, with symptoms that often fluctuate seasonally and even over the course of the day. Eczema typically begins in early childhood. Research indicates that eczema may be genetically determined and studies show that there is often a family history of allergies, asthma, eczema or hay fever. Children who experience eczema may also suffer from asthma or hay fever as well. Like an allergy, eczema tends to flair up when exposed to certain triggers, especially mechanical irritants, allergens, emotional stress, heat and sweating. When exposed to an offending situation, inflammation producing cells come to surface of the skin and release chemicals, leaving the skin red, pealing and thickened. Sometimes tiny blisters form, rupture, weep and crust over. Eczema most often appears in and round the creases of joints of the arms and legs and around trunk of the body. For some, it also emerges on their hands and on the sloes of their feet. Sufferers also experience an intense itching makes them want to scratch it, causing additional damage which can lead to bleeding and infection. Solvents, chemicals, detergents, bleach, woolen clothing, skin care products that contain alcohol and certain soaps or fragrances are all considered mechanical irritant that can cause burning, itching or redness to the skin and bring about a flair-up. And while allergens, like food, pollens and pets, do not irritate the skin, they can also trigger a flair-up. The same holds true to emotional stress. Intense emotions such as anger and frustration can flair up symptoms. Many individuals with eczema also do not tolerate extremely hot or cold temperatures as well. High humidity can cause increased sweating, while low humidity can dry the skin. Recommendations For Wellness The key to controlling eczema is prevention. Avoid or reduce your exposure to things that can irritate your skin such as household cleaners, detergents, certain soaps and wool clothing. Use a moisturizer on your skin every day to help keep it soft and flexible. Dont scratch even if it itches! Scratching can further irritate the skin and can even cause the skin to break and crack, opening the door to infection. Take the time to identify your triggers. This can help you to avoid or limit your exposure to the offending item even better. If you think a food item is causing your problems, talk to your doctor about getting an allergy test or try an elimination diet to help you identify the offending product. Be sure to dry your hands completely after you wash them. Wear gloves when your hands will be exposed to anything that can irritate them. Learn to manage your stress through regular exercise, breathing techniques, biofeedback, meditation and yoga. Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) has been shown to help reduce the inflammation, dryness and scaleness often associated with eczema. GLA can be found in evening primrose oil, borage oil and currant seed oil. If your skin becomes infected, the herb Oregon grape has been used for hundreds of years to treat infections and a variety of skin problems. Natures Sunshines Golden Salve is a blend of herbs, oils and beeswax that sooths and moisturizes rough, chafed, chapped skin. A homeopathic remedy for eczema may help relieve the itching and irritation associated with eczema and dermatitis of the skin and scalp. Copyright Body, Mind & SoulHealer 2005. All rights reserved. UK Unsecured Personal Loans

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Marcus_Peterson]Marcus Peterson Do you need extra fund for improving your home, sending your kid to school, or buying a new car? Or are you thinking of perhaps getting a month off from work and spend a greet holiday with your family? If you do, then UK unsecured personal loan is right for you. In recent years, due to the financial boom, taking up UK unsecured personal loan has become one of the most sought-after solutions by people who are in need for extra fund to pay for their consolidated debts and other financial constraints. This type of loan has gained popularity in the UK lending market as more and more people find the need for extra money to be used for improving their homes or their childrens college education. One advantage of UK unsecured personal loans is that you can turn your outstanding debts by consolidating them into a single, easy-to-manage monthly payments. If you have several credits and you started missing payments for one, you can apply for an unsecured personal loan to pay for these several credits, leaving the unsecured personal loan your only obligation that you have to pay for certain duration. Another advantage is that UK lenders can allow you to get UK unsecured personal loan even without any collateral. This means that you can raise the extra fund that you need without putting any of your property at stake in case you will not be able to repay. However, because of the risk that the UK lender takes in case of no repayment, they made the interest higher compared to a secured personal loan. Getting a UK unsecured personal loan has both advantages and disadvantages. So, you must weigh if it will be more reasonable for you to get this type of personal loan based on your needs. If you want a large amount of money, you can go for a secured personal loan. But if you wish to repay the loan over a short period of time, you can go for UK unsecured personal loan. How to Create Instant Rapport with Your Interviewer

Friday, December 14th, 2007

By Michael Soliatis Getting an interview is hard enough. Youve already spent time and effort writing your resume and distributing it. Now youve got to the all important interview. Only one person will get the job so you owe it to yourself to make the best possible impression. If you can make yourself instantly likeable you will have an important head start. Ever noticed how lovers in a bar will sit facing each other across a small table and adopt the same pose. Their synchronicity indicates a desire to be in tune with each other. As one changes position watch how the other will soon adopt the same new position so that their bodies remain synchronized. This behaviour is called mirroring because they place their bodies so that they are a mirror image of each other. And this behaviour isnt just confined to lovers. Watch a small group of people in any meeting, whether social or business, and youll soon be able to tell who is in tune with whom and the ones that are feeling less comfortable with their companions. Next time you are with someone make a point of adopting the same body position. If they are standing at a bar with one elbow on the bar and their ankles crossed, stand next to them in the same pose. You may be surprised at how quickly they respond more warmly towards you. As they change posture wait a few seconds and then slowly slide into their new position. Dont be shy because they wont consciously notice that your movements are deliberate. But their subconscious will be aware and interpret your mirroring as a friendly gesture. They will also feel safer facing someone who looks the same. The first time I heard about this technique I was somewhat skeptical. I had to attend a business meeting with someone many miles away so I thought I would try mirroring him on the basis that if he realised what I was doing or reacted unfavourably it wouldnt matter much as at least I wouldnt have to make the same long journey again. I decided that I would mirror him but not lead our discussion. Instead I would let him do all the talking and only talk when necessary. We sat on opposite sides of his desk and right from the beginning I adopted his pose. Each time he changed position I would follow within a minute or so. He was a smoker but I am not so I held a pen whilst he smoked. Our meeting began at two oclock and I thought it would last about an hour or an hour and a half at most. But I was in for a big surprise. After two hours there was still no sign from him that our meeting should end. For my part I was intrigued at how well we were getting along. He kept telling me how pleased he was that I had come so far to meet him and how much he was enjoying our conversation. This was a surprise especially since I had hardly spoken. When it got to half past five I had to interrupt and make my apologies for bringing our meeting to a close. Again he thanked me profusely for visiting him. Clearly the fact that I had been a good listener was very important but without my mirroring I do believe he would not have felt so at ease with me. Since then I have mirrored people in all sorts of situations and have always had a positive response. More recently I have introduced mirroring to job candidates who have all found it beneficial. It even works if you are being interviewed by a board. As a board member asks a question, swivel in your seat to face the questioner and at the same time slide your body into the same posture they have. Mirroring happens unconsciously between people who like each other. By deliberately mirroring you are simply showing that you are in tune with another with the result that you will receive a positive response. Try it with the next person you meet. Once you are sure of its beneficial effect you will have the confidence to use it at your next interview. Of course you will still have to prepare for the interview and answer the interview questions correctly but mirroring will certainly tip the balance in your favour. Why One-Sheets are Must-Have Marketing Tools

Friday, December 14th, 2007

By Karen Saunders Suppose you meet someone who could hire you for your expertise and services. In the spirit of getting to know you, that decision-maker asks, “What do you speak about?” or “How do you help organizations?” or “Which groups have you worked with?” These questions become your opening to convey how you assist people and why you’re the one experienced to do so. That’s exactly what a marketing one-sheet does, too. To convey that you’re a must-have expert, your one-sheet needs to be written and designed effectively. Answers Key Questions Your one-sheet, in effect, succinctly answers these seven questions that decision makers would ask you in person at a first meeting: 1. How would you describe your area of expertise? 2. Whom do you work with and give presentations to? 3. What are the benefits of hiring you — for the leaders of the organization? — for the participants in the ranks? — for organizational progress? 4. What have you done that makes you an expert? 5. Which groups have you worked with before? 6. What did participants think of your contribution? 7. How can you be reached for more information? Well-crafted words on your one-sheet answer these questions in the form of seven corresponding must-have elements: 1. Topics/Programs 2. Target Audience 3. Benefits (especially in headlines) 4. Biography 5. Client List 6. Testimonials 7. Contact Information Adding Personality Even if you have all of these elements in place, what turns it into a stronger must-have piece that represents you? In a word: Personality. For example my client, Doug Butler, is a speaker whose message is “Cowboy Wisdom.” I’ve built his one-sheet around the western cowboy theme. This is all part of his brand. His one-sheet features cowboy graphics with lots of showmanship. I’ve included a color photo of him in action with a lasso and a portrait shot of him wearing a cowboy hat with his guitar. Other graphics include these cowboy symbols: a horse, a badge, a cowboy figure wearing a hat, bandana, and chaps-even a spurred cowboy boot. Its overall look reflects the personality that participants want from him, achieving that appeal through these special graphic effects. Put Your Benefits in the Headlines On Doug’s one-sheet I have this headline: “Cowboy wisdom into the 21st century.” Be sure to make your headlines bold and compelling. Add Credibility with Logos In Doug’s case, I included his company logo and the NSA logo to show affiliation with a group recognized by decision makers. Be sure to include your logo and tag line. Doug uses this tag line: “Forge a firm foundation with Doug’s tried-and-true Cowboy Code.” Through his words, themes, and graphics, Doug extends his warm personality to additional marketing pieces — his website, business card, handout materials, and so on. Together, they create a must-have look that appeals to decision makers in organizations he wants to reach. By applying these techniques to your one-sheet and other marketing materials, you can turn your prospects into sales, and watch your revenue grow. Your Wellness: What You Can Do Part 3

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

By Terry Coyier Part three of this four part series on wellness for the person suffering from bipolar disorder will discuss the importance of routines and creative outlets. Routines Yes, I knowboring! As unexciting as routines are, for someone with bipolar they can be the foundation needed to reestablish a healthy and productive life. Routines can help eradicate the unexpected out of your life. They keep you from feeling overwhelmed at every turn. I am the type of person who becomes bored by routines quite easily, but since my first inpatient treatment I have not been able to handle many situations without advance preparation. So I integrated some rituals into my life so that on days when I’m not feeling up to par, I can still function with minimal effort. Everyone has a certain amount of routine in their life but when you are bipolar the more simplicity, the better. If it helps, think of them as shortcuts. Or think of them in terms of trash. If trash collectors didn’t have a scheduled day to pick up your garbage each week, how would you know when to put it out? Here are some suggestions: ~*~ I can be indecisive, so I pick out my clothes the night before. This way if I wake up late, which will fluster me, I don’t have the added pressure of coming up with something to wear. Some people take this idea a step further and actually hang their clothes in “preset” outfits so all they do is grab and go. Customization is the key to making routines work for you. ~*~ I am not a morning person so I try to do as much as possible the night before. Just recently I started taking my shower in the evening. This was a difficult change for me since I have taken my shower in the morning for 25 years. What I’ve discovered is that I haven’t been late to a morning appointment once in the past month. ~*~ Make a schedule for repetitive tasks. I have deviated from my schedule lately and have suffered from it. It’s easy to let chores pile up to the point that you can’t even pick a place to start. So do your tasks on the same day every week. Make a calendar to keep you on track. For example: ~*~ Mondays you do vacuuming ~*~ Tuesdays you do dusting ~*~ Wednesdays you do household laundry ~*~ Thursdays you clean the bathrooms ~*~ Fridays you rent movies and relax ~*~ Saturdays you do personal laundry and take the kids to the park ~*~ Sundays you go to church, fill your weekly pill reminder and have a nice family dinner You get the idea. Don’t forget to schedule in personal time as well as chores and don’t beat yourself up if you get off schedule. Simply regroup and, if needed, even rearrange your schedule and start again. ~*~ If your family consists of a significan other, spouse and/or children who have schedules to be met as well, make a family calendar. You can make it using a simple wall calendar, desk calendar or make one on a computer. The rules areeveryone must have access to it and everyone must write down his or her appointments for it to work. By doing this you can very easily see scheduling conflicts in advance, before they become a problem and a source of stress. Creative Outlets Sometimes I find it helpful to treat myself the same way I treat my son. When I feel overwhelmed and upset about an event or situation I “distract and redirect.” It seems to help if I can escape the problem for a short time and focus on something that is creative. Then, once I have calmed down I refocus on the problem with a refreshed mind. Creativity, being the opposite of “black and white thinking,” tends to open my “stuck” thought process and often gives me an entire new outlook. Here are some possibilities: ~*~ Writing ~*~ Journaling ~*~ Drawing or painting (I actual color in coloring books) ~*~ Gardening ~*~ Playing a musical instrument ~*~ Dancing ~*~ Flower arranging ~*~ Making homemade greeting cards ~*~ Playing a game ~*~ Photography ~*~ Model building ~*~ Sewing, needlepoint, quilting, cross-stitch, macram, crochet ~*~ Sculpting ~*~ Designing or updating a website ~*~ Scrapbooking Rountines and creative outlets may not seem like important issues, but they can be lifesavers. Manufacturing Tips - Dig In, Flush Out What Markets You Need to Be Working On Right Now

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

By Carl Kruse Sometimes I marvel at the mainstream media. During the course of this week, youll hear several key numbers about the manufacturing sector of our economy. And we may feel excited if the numbers are good. Or if the numbers are negative, well ask ourselves the question, How can I change the approach in my manufacturing business to insure growth over the next couple of years? But the truth is those numbers are probably too broad to really mean anything to really help us. Plus they are probably too late. In order for us to grow our businesses, we need to be on the leading edge of our industries and in constant contact with the sectors we serve. The telecommunication industry in the late 90s was tremendous market to manufacture product for. It expanded quite rapidly and unfortunately came down and fell faster than any other industry we have been involved in the past 25 years. But we are hear to tell you that we are hearing rumblings from toolmakers, material suppliers and contract manufacturers that telecommunications is starting to make a come back. One contact just pulled a die casting tool off the shelf that has not been run in 7 years. Another job shop manufacturer just made a modification and ran a pilot of assemblies for a major telecommunications equipment provider. What does all this really mean? Something is starting to happen and you’ll never hear it on the evening news or read it in the Wall Street Journal or Philadelphia Inquirer. You need to dig in, investigate and strategically approach that market if you want some big growth in the coming years. And we dont really care what the mainstream pundits say, because they will be late on this news and you better get in their and work on the telecommunications market RIGHT NOW! Carl Kruse is a “player-coach” in job shop manufacturing. He is a sales engineer specializing in manufactured components and assemblies. He also writes, coaches and consults with job shop manufacturers. His Geometric Selling System has helped grow many manufacturers in size and scope. Speed Up Your Weight Loss While Avoiding Harmful Diets

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

By Chris Robertson Every time you turn around, there is a weight loss plan being advertised. In the supermarket checkout line there are dozens of magazines displayed. On almost every one you will see a diet plan or diet tips that are guaranteed to work! As more people suffer with obesity and loss of energy, the concern becomes greater to lose weight. In desperation, people try every new diet that comes out. Some of these are not good for your health and can cause severe problems with continued use. Another popular method of weight loss is taking diet pills. Sometimes a doctor will give you an appetite suppressant, but these are only meant for temporary use. Many take over-the-counter pills, but these are really only supplements and may not deliver the desired results. Try a Natural Approach to Weight Loss If you are dissatisfied with your body and the diets you have tried, why not try a more natural approach? You may not see instant results, but in the long run the results will be more satisfactory. You will have a better level of health and wellness, and a higher level of energy. With all the additives, preservatives and chemicals in our food and body hygiene products, our bodies are in need of detoxing. Using a cleansing system, usually made up of herbal products, will help remove the toxins built up in your organs and fatty tissues. Other harmful products that affect our health are cigarettes and tobacco products, sodas, coffee, environmental pollutants and prescription drugs. By detoxing the body you will eliminate these wastes and help the body function in a healthier way. This will give you more energy, better colon health, clearer skin, and help with your weight loss efforts. Eat Healthy Foods A good diet of healthy foods is another area that is important. Eliminate harmful foods such as white flour and sugar and refined foods. Eat meat moderately and concentrate on fresh vegetables and fruit. Instead of skipping meals and eating one big meal a day, eat five to six small meals during the day. This is easier for your body to absorb and can be used more efficiently.
