Sinus Congestion - Try the Ancient Neti

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Clara Myers Lack of oxygen is not conducive to life so of course those who suffer from sinus congestion are desperate for a permanent solution. The most common course of action is to try over-the-counter medications. If those medications are not effective, the next step is usually to see a doctor for a prescription for more powerful drugs. While medications will clear the sinuses, the side effects are sometimes more than the sufferer is willing to endure. Often the side effects include brain fog, sleepiness, and a very dry throat and sinuses. Of course things could get even worse and morph into a sinus infection. If that happens, an even stronger class of drugs and their side effects come into play. Before the problem gets to that stage, there’s an alternative that’s very effective and doesn’t involve drugs or their side effects–the neti pot. The neti pot has literally been around for ages. The term comes from an ancient Indian yoga technique, meaning literally “water cleansing”, where the practitioner rinses out the nasal cavity with water using a neti pot. You can make your own saline solution for nasal irrigation by mixing 1/4-teaspoon salt in an 8-ounce glass of warm water and add a pinch (1/4-tsp.) of baking soda. If you don’t want to make your own, you can purchase a pre-made solution to put into the neti pot. Once you have the solution in the neti pot: Lower your head over a sink. Turn your head to the side. Keep your nose slightly higher than your mouth. Pour solution from the container into your nostril. Water will drain from your other nostril into the sink. Gently blow your nose. Repeat the same process for other nostril.Remember to breath through your mouth during the process. Nasal irrigation is safe, but remember overuse can interefere with the ability of the sinuses to fight bacteria. Hair Removal: Threading, Friction and Epilators

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By Michael Russell Friction, Threading and the use of rotating epilators are other methods of hair removal. Friction - Friction is not a very popular method of hair removal although some people find it effective on fine hairs of the legs and arms. In this method, a rough surface, like a mitt or a pumice stone, is used to rub away hair on the skin’s surface. A mitt with rough strips on a smooth surface is often used. Friction is inexpensive, fast, basically painless and can be done at home. This also exfoliates and smoothes the skin. Most say this method is good for fine hair on the legs while others use it between shaving or waxing sessions. The effects last a short time, a few hours to a few days and a pigmented area often called the dark ’shadow’ is often visible. This can also cause skin irritation if rubbed too hard and is not for use on sensitive areas like the face, arms or bikini area. Threading (Khite) - This method is called khite in Arabic and fatlah in Egyptian. It’s not a commonly used method in the West but it is primarily for removing hair at the root and is used mainly on facial hair, especially in the eyebrow area. Rows of three to five stray hair strands are pulled out with twists of cotton thread. Traditionally, the practitioner holds one end of the cotton thread in his teeth and the other end in his left hand. The middle part of the thread is looped through the index and middle fingers of the right hand. The practitioner then uses this loop of thread to lock in a series of unwanted hairs and yank them by the root from the skin. There are also devices made that can hold the thread during the procedure. A more modern procedure eliminates the use of the practitioner’s teeth. Threading is inexpensive, neat, accurate and fast. This method is considered a little less painful than plucking or tweezing for many people. Threading is deemed good for cleaning the eyebrows and facial hair. Similar to plucking, results can last up to two to four weeks. Unfortunately, you cannot do it yourself and it is a little difficult to find a good professional practitioner outside urban areas. Many states call for a licensed cosmetologist to do hair removal like threading. Threading can result in pain and itching. In some cases, this results in side effects which include folliculitis, which is a bacterial infection of hair follicles causing reddening or puffiness of the skin and changes in skin pigment. Rotary Epilators - Rotary epilators are devices that are akin to electric razors. The difference is that, instead of a cutting blade on the rotary head, the epilator has rows of tweezers which yank hairs out by the root. This tool is good for the hair on legs and arms. The hair-free effect can last from several days to a few weeks. However, this device can be hard to use on the backs of legs. Others become sore, especially on the body’s sensitive areas and the epilators often prove to be difficult to use on fine hairs. Also, the hairs to be removed must be grown long enough so that the tweezers can grasp them. To aid in this procedure, the skin must be pulled tight to avoid pinching. Like plucking, this can also result in irritation and ingrown hairs. Know Your Man: Be Sexy

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

By Maria Moratto “The average woman would rather have beauty than brains, because, the average man can see better than he can think.” ~ Anon Here is a typical complaint: “She used to go to bed in a naughty nightie and didn’t care about sweating the curls out of her head. Now she goes to bed with a head full of rollers and a face covered with cream. When we were dating, she batted her eyes, spoke softly, and always looked sexy. But now that she’s got me, that all changed. The gently batting eyes and shy smiles have been replaced with frowns, pursed lips, and shrill tones. No more sexy clothes. Now she dresses like she doesn’t care what she looks like, every day is a bad hair day, and she’s fast losing the curves in her body and developing a pleasantly plump figure.” I think this is one the hardest issues that happens in a relationship: to be and look sexy. Many women, especially mothers lose the ability to behave sexy when so many things need taking care in the household, especially after dinner when it is time to unwind. However, from the standpoint of a man, this is also one of the most important elements of their relationship: a sexy woman. So, if you cant act sexy, at least, develop a sexy body and wear sexy clothes. After all, how hard it is to have a pleasant figure? My friend Guy complains that his wife does wear sexy clothes; however, she developed such an ugly figure after the birth of their child that he loathes the way she dresses. Conclusion: Sexy clothes in a terrible body does not work: attempt at both. A joke for you:A man stopped at his favorite watering hole after a hard days work to relax. He noticed a man next to him ordered a shot and a beer. The man drank the shot, chased it with the beer and then looked into his shirt pocket. This continued several times before the man’s curiosity got the best of him. He leaned over to the guy and said, “Excuse me, I couldn’t help but notice your little ritual, why in the world do you look into your shirt pocket every time you drink your shot & beer”? The man replied, “There’s a picture of my wife in there, and when she starts lookin’ good, I’m headin’ home”! A Word of AdviceLadies: If he likes those stupid black nighties, wear them at least once a week, or when you are in the mood for some good sex. After love-making, go change to your soft pajamas if you wish. Now, for ordinary daily clothes, it is always a good idea to wear something elegant, classy, comfortable, and, of course, sexy. Gents: perhaps you want to trade some bad habit of yours for the opportunity of seeing her in a naughty outfit? How can you compromise? Talk to her. Top 3 Ways to Use the Money From Your Home Equity Line of Credit!

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_R._Blakefield]John R. Blakefield A home equity line of credit is a great advantage for home buyers that renters do not have. You can take out some of the equity you have built up in the home, and use it for personal purposes. Many banks offer home equity lines of credit and it can be a great way to get some cash when you need it the most, or have it in mind for a specific use. Home equity lines of credit can be given to the home owner all at once, as the money is needed through check payments, or like a credit card where the home owner can actually take out the money like a credit or debit card. These options can be specific to how the home owner wants to use the money and can be negotiated between the banker and home owner. So how would you use this money taken out from the home equity line of credit? The first and one of the most common ways to use the money is to make home improvements or additions that can increase the value of the property. Using the equity in the home can be a great way to upgrade appliances, renovate a bathroom, or build a pool or basketball court in the back yard. Perhaps the home needs a new roof or paint job. A home owner can use the equity in the home to improve it and make it worth even more than what it was before the home equity loan. In reality, the home could be appraised at a higher value and be refinanced if the improvements added that much more value to the home! The second way the money form a home equity loan can be used is to consolidate the home owner’s debt. By paying off the revolving credit, the owner can have just one loan, the home equity line of credit, against a safe investment, the property. Many home owners can appreciate financial freedom that they would otherwise not experience because of excess credit and debt. By using the money to consolidate one’s debt, monthly credit payments greatly save the amount of money that is being spent every month, and allow a home owner to save up some cash. This is really a good option for those who need help getting ahead, or need additional cash flow. The third top way for using the money form a home equity loan is sending a child to college or furthering your own education by either going to college, or getting a master or doctorate degree. College, both undergraduate and graduate, is very expensive and many people do not have cash readily available to be able to attend the classes they need to accomplish this goal. It is much better to use the equity in the house than having to take out many student loans at high interest rates that could follow you for years after. By helping your child go to college, you could offer them a huge opportunity that others would dream about! Regardless in how you use the money, be sure to understand that you are borrowing against the equity in your home, similar to a mortgage, and will have to put that money back. Always agree on the terms and how it is going to effect your financial environment. Enjoy the benefits of being a home owner by using the equity in your home, but be smart about your decisions and don’t get out of your comfort zone financially. Kick the Flu Out Without Taking Any Medicine and Tamiflu

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Teddy_Sun] Teddy Sun Every winter, there are many reasons to worry about the flu. This year we are doing the same thing, but to an even greater extent. Scientists and physicians have made many announcements, issued many reports, and given many speeches regarding the terrible bird flu. Everyone is concerned as since we repeatedly read and hear these reports in newspapers and magazines, and on the internet, radio and television. Why are we scared? Living in this high technology world, what problem is there that we cannot solve? If you ask this question to a scientist at this time, the answer you will receive is that the bird flu is difficult to handle right now! Why is so hard? Since the flu virus is so tricky and the mutation is so complicated, it is difficult to find the right bacterin. Maybe you dont know what I am talking about. Let me give you an example and you will understand immediately. Computer anti-virus program needs to updated in order to provide good protection. Programmers are able to create updated anti-virus software in a very short time because they have the knowledge to quickly find a solution. The case of flu virus case is similar, but a hundred times harder. The flu does not matter to people if we have the right bacterin. Because we do not have the precise new bacterin ready for immediate use, scientists continue to warning people to pay close attention to the virus mutation. The fact that we have a flu shot today doesnt mean we are protected from a new flu virus from mutation tomorrow. We must understand this fact. Many people still believe one flu shot will do it all and it is a mistake for people to lose sight of the risk of a new virus! There are a few things we really must consider in order to have a full view of the menace of flu. How fast can flu mutation be seen: a minute, a week, or a month? Who controls the flu mutation? What is the best way to protect yourself if the current bacterin is not effective against tomorrows new flu virus? If we really care about our resistance to flu, we must give deep thought to those questions! We have to prepare everything enough to face the flu seriously. At least, we have to ask ourselves “what’s flu exactly?” to make sure that we know it well! Moreover, Is there the other option of protecting ourselves? Think about it. Teddy Sun, a senior student of universe. Thirty years ago, he had a chance to start studying the universe. Teddy likes to share his view with people all the time. There is a new eBook called Kick The Flu Out that has just been released on the market. This eBook is fascinating! An Overview of the Cox-2 Inhibitor Drug Controversy

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Colin_Albert] Colin Albert In the Fall of 2004 it was learned that Cox-2 inhibitor drugs may cause some very serious side effects. What exactly are Cox-2 inhibitors, why were they developed and what are those side effects? In order to understand the functioning of Cox-2 inhibitors, we must first discuss nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, usually called NSAIDs. These include some very popular pain killers (Aspirin and Motrin) intended to relieve the inflammation of tendonitis, bursitis and arthritis. NSAIDs block both Cox-1 and Cox-2 enzymes. Cox-1 enzymes can be found in inflamed parts of the body as well as in the stomach. They produce prostaglandins, which help maintain the proper health of the stomachs mucus lining. Cox-2 enzymes, which are not present in the stomach, also create prostaglandins, which the body uses to deal with inflammations. Due to the impeding of Cox-1 enzymes, many people are presented with gastronomical side effects when they take NSAIDs. These side effects may include ulcers and stomach bleeding, bloating, heartburn, vomiting and nausea. And in the most serious cases, kidney or liver failure may be caused. The drug companies correctly concluded that there would be a very significant market for an anti-inflammatory drug that did not include a Cox-1 inhibitor, but instead specifically only blocked the Cox-2 enzymes in the areas of the body that were inflamed. No Cox-1 inhibitors, no more gastronomical side effects, the reasoning went. A drug that only blocked Cox-2 enzymes would provide relief to millions of arthritis patients, without causing the stomach problems many suffered with the NSAIDs. About a decade ago the Cox-2 inhibitor medications appeared in Americas drugstores. The medical establishment pronounced these Cox-2 inhibiting drugs as a major advance. Over the following years, drugs including Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra were prescribed to countless patients suffering with inflammatory pains including arthritis. The results were good. These drugs reduced the pain, but did not show the gastronomical side effects associated with the older NSAIDs. But in late 2004, notwithstanding the reduced incidence of stomach-related problems, the maker of Vioxx, Merck made the decision to pull the drug from pharmacy shelves. In doing so, Merck referred to an increased incidence of both strokes and heart attacks amongst patients taking the product for more than 18 months. Later in 2004, a Texas jury awarded damages of $1,000,000,000 to the widow of a Vioxx user. Early in 2006, an expert panel recommended that Vioxx be reintroduced onto pharmacy shelves. However the Food and Drug Administration is still looking at the matter. Early in 2005, Bextras manufacturer decided to remove it from our pharmacies. The FDAs view is that it offers no advantages over other NSAIDs, but may actually increase the chances of stroke and heart attack, and also cause serious skin problems. Regarding Celebrex, the Food and Drug Administration, while confirming an increase in heart attacks and strokes especially with high doses, concluded that the benefits of Celebrex may outweigh these potential side effects. So Celebrex can still be bought in pharmacies. Research is being done to study the potential long-term side effects of each of these Cox-2 inhibitor drugs. For example, European scientists concluded that some popular NSAIDs are just as likely to raise the risk of heart attacks as are the Cox-2 drugs. Another recent study concluded that using Vioxx had a higher risk of cardiovascular side effects than does the other two drugs. The debate continues. Colin Albert operates the LifeFormulas web site, which presents a blog about his experiences with his ITV Ventures business. One of the supplements he sells from that business is [http://www.lifeformulas.com/flexprotex] FlexProtex, which includes a completely natural COX-2 inhibitor and a high-grade Glucosamine for increased joint functioning, as well as relief from discomfort. The Jesus Conspiracy

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By Robert Baird For archaeomythologists and researchers like myself there is an abundance of value in the Bible. It is a veritable gold-mine of insight to our ancient past and the people who built the Great Pyramid in honor of their ancestors and a worldwide Brotherhood. It is in fact written by them and it is coded to relay many of their ancient myths that they used to manage their people and colonies. Many things mentioned in the Bible are not yet re-created by science unless the black ops people have succeeded with things they took from Freuds student Wilhelm Reich and others I have addressed in other books. The Logos and String Theory or Harmonics and all so many great technologies that did not require materialistic attitudes are there. Tesla said he found the egis of his wireless system in Revelations. That is the man who brought us AC electricity, neon, Niagara Falls hydroelectric power, and the radio among many other things black ops are still working on. Hermeneuts and Bible scholars or interpreters galore have and still disagree over the meaning of the Bible as well as the meaning in many of the excerpts they argue about. It is most difficult to actually know what the message of Jesus was sometimes when you listen to all the pulpit-pounders or proselytes. Clearly there are many myths in the Bible and some of the passages if followed religiously would lead to Armageddon and cannibalism as well as all manner of pornographic and perverse acts. Wait a minute! What am I saying? That is what goes on in the land they call Holy that has so many holes caused by bullets as well as the other kind of holes. Pardon me if I get a little too passionate or crude for your sensibilities as I detail the War on Women these misogynists have wrought from the time of Moses and Abraham with his baby-factories or harems. I hope that I can convey the positive message of Jesus and what his title means even though I am not going to focus on that as much as I am trying to place some political questions about various intrigues in front of the reader. I will take excerpts from my many other books including a very positive portrayal and semi-fiction called The Early Life of Jesus. I believe I have been motivated and inspired by the message of Jesus for most if not all of my life. In fact I have studied what he studied even though there is no school for these things in our present day. I have studied it long and hard for at least three decades. I live it now and for the last few years since 1999. I can attest to the fact that Malcolm Muggeridge was right about what would happen to Jesus if he was alive today. But I do not believe in Messiahs or any of the myths that pre-date Jesus. Those myths like the only begotten make it easy for people to do whatever they want and simply confess, testify, or pay-off the priestly politicos. The House of David has been part of secret trade and the use of sorcery and power for many millennia but it was Rome that ramped up the program to its Dark Age and Crusading nature. More about LASIK

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Ajishnu_Sharma] Ajishnu Sharma A Brief Introduction to LASIK With the advent of laser, LASIK procedures shot into prominence ever since the first LASIK procedure was performed in 1991 in the United States. Since then, there has been a boom in LASIK eye surgery centers started all over the United States. The number of LASIK vision correction procedures performed in the United States alone so far stands at more than three million. The growth in the number of LASIK eye centers was due to: Shorter recovery times Faster operation times Increased precision levels Where to Find LASIK Clinics? Now you may ask the question where do I find a LASIK clinic? More importantly, how do I determine which is a good LASIK center? The Internet makes your job that much easier. You can log onto the Internet and put out a search for whatever aspect of LASIK you want information on. For basic information about the availability of LASIK centers in different parts of America, just type the location you are looking at and the word LASIK after or before it. This becomes the keyword based on which you search for the information you require. To look for a LASIK clinic in New York, you would type the following in the Search field of your Internet search engine: lasik new york lasik nyc To look for information regarding LASIK in New Jersey, you would type: lasik nj lasik New Jersey Some other examples for location-oriented searches for LASIK-related information are: lasik dallas lasik san diego lasik colorado lasik denver lasik virginia lasik niagara lasik washington bellevue lasik lasik milwaukee lasik houston lasi sacramento lasik seattle lasik michigan lasik austin lasik texas lasik tampa lasik phoenix lasik kansas city lasik atlanta lasik san francisco lasik los angeles lasik cincinnati lasik boston manhattan lasik lasik washington dc lasik md Finding the Right LASIK Center With so many LASIK clinics around, how do you zero in on a good one? Each clinics website claims it to be the best, providing cutting edge technologies, etc. So how do you know which of them to go to? Here you should keep one thing in mind what is best according to them might not always be what is best for you. So a good idea is to go through these sites, do some research on the Internet, make comparative studies (like doing comparative shopping when buying health insurance online) and then take a call on which one suits your requirements best. That has to be the criteria that determines which is the best. Another way to find out is if you know people who have been to these clinics, or from friends. You can always take an opinion from experienced people. Their opinion can go a long way in taking you to the clinic of your choice. You can also take your optometrists advice and choose the one he thinks would be best for you. How much does LASIK Cost? When you do a comparative analysis of the prices of different LASIK procedures, as also the price of LASIK procedures in different clinics, you will notice that LASIK prices vary from one procedure to another. Some of the factors that influence LASIK pricing are: State of the patients eyesight Location of the clinic The primary reason for variation of the cost of LASIK procedures is the dependence of the procedure on the state of the patients vision. For a patient with reasonably good vision, the LASIK procedure cost would be much lower than that for a patient with bad vision. This is because in such a case, the amount of correction or corneal readjustment would be much more. On the Internet, there are sites that dedicate time and space to providing comparisons between the pricing of different LASIK procedures. Offline, the Review of Ophthalmology states that in 2003 the average LASIK surgery cost was $1,700, but in the Midwest it was lower than that, probably lesser by a couple of hundred dollars. Ever since, prices have been steadily rising and today the average cost of a LASIK procedure is anywhere between $1800 and $2000. This kind of figure has been steadily increasing, as pointed out by different publications and surveys online. LASIK eye surgery cost also depends on the pricing opted for by different centers. Some centers may make use of upgraded technology, and hence may charge more than other centers that still use conventional LASIK procedures. The cost of LASIK surgery may seem a bit steep, but if you are serious about correcting your eye problems, LASIK is a very viable procedure, more so because of the number of procedural options it provides you with. LASIK Centers There are quite a few LASIK centers across the length and breadth of the United States. Some of these are LASIK chains, and are very well-known, have more publicity that keeps them visible, and provide excellent facilities. Some of these LASIK chains are: LasikPlus The LASIK Vision Institute TLC Laser Vision Centers LCA Vision Lasik Center Icon LASIK The LASIK Eye Institute There are many more such national chains of LASIK clinics. To find them, you can again put out a search on the Internet. Most of these have their own websites and provide detailed information about their services, their skill sets, equipment used, fees, and any other information relevant to their business. Besides these chains, there are also individual LASIK doctors in various clinics with high levels of expertise in performing LASIKS procedures. A LASIK doctor is much sought after these days, and a good LASIK doctor can be easily found in any of these facilities. More than that, there are also sites that give you a rating for the different clinics, based on their equipment, cost, service and a host of other factors. So all you have to do is log on, compare what is on offer, check the ratings, and then decide which clinic you want to visit. Remember that the ratings are generic. The top-rated clinic may not be the one that will give you what you are looking for! You may only file a joint return if you are married at the end of the tax year (December 31) and both of you agree to file and sign a joint return.1 The box you check on your return is “Married filing jointly.” Same sex couples and domestic partners cannot file joint returns. You qualify as married even if you are separated as long as there is no final decree terminating your marital status. A temporary pendente order does not affect your marital status. However, if the divorce is final and your marital status is terminated by the end of the tax year your filing status is either “single” or “Head of household.” There are pros and cons to filing a joint tax return which you should discuss with your tax advisor and your attorney. Generally, your tax burden will be lower although this will not always be the case depending on your respective incomes, deductions and credits. The main disadvantage of filing jointly is that both of you are jointly and severally liable for taxes on the return, including any tax deficiencies, interest and penalties. This exposure can be partially mitigated by executing a Tax Indemnification agreement discussed below. Also the IRS may allow relief to a spouse who files jointly. The three types of IRS relief (”innocent spouse,” “separation of liability” and “equitable relief”) are discussed in IRS publication 971. My spouse said they would sign a joint return but they are now refusing to do so? Spouses often use tax returns as a bargaining tool. Generally, a joint return can only be filed where both parties agree and both sign the return. 2. A court will not order unwilling spouses to file a joint return. 3. However, in rare circumstances the IRS will accept a joint return signed by only one spouse where there is evidence of a clear intent to file a joint return and the non-signing spouse does not file a separate return. 4. Effect of filing status upon child and spousal support In calculating guideline child and spousal support, the Court has to take into account “the annual net disposable income of each parent” which is computed by deducting from annual gross income, state and federal income tax liability after considering the appropriate filing status, all available exclusions, deductions, and credits. 5. Therefore, your filing status as “Married filing jointly,” “Separate” or “Married filing separately” will have an impact on the amount of support you pay or receive. In one case, the California Court of Appeal overturned the trial court’s decision where guideline support had been incorrectly based on husband’s status as “Married filing jointly” instead of “Married filing separately.” 6. If the parties calculate guideline child and spousal support using a certified program such as “Dissomaster” and incorrectly input that the parties will be filing jointly when the Husband payor should have been filing as “Married filing separately” and the Wife as “Head of household,” the Husband may well end up paying less in child and spousal support because the program makes allowances for tax liability. If we file a joint return what precautions should we take? First, make sure that any tax refunds are paid to both of you. If you decide to have any refund sent to you by check make sure that the check is paid to both of you jointly. If a direct deposit is sought make sure the refund is routed to a joint account. You should reach a clear agreement as to how tax liability will be apportioned. A common approach is to prorate tax liability using a ratio based on both spouses separate incomes. Another approach could be based upon what each spouse would have paid if they had filed separate returns. Then to the extent a spouse’s share exceeds what he or she has already paid by way of salary or withholding or estimated tax, that spouse would pay the difference. Second, if you are going to file taxes jointly, it’s a good idea to get your spouse to sign a Stipulation regarding Tax Indemnification since both spouses will be jointly and severally liable taxes on the return, including any tax deficiencies, interest and penalties. Even if the divorce (dissolution decree) states that one spouse will be liable for any amounts due on previously filed joint returns, the IRS may still hold both spouses jointly and severally liable and go after either spouse. Example of a Tax Indemnification Agreement IT IS HEREBY STIPULATED by Wife and Husband as follows:1. Wife shall immediately provide the Husband with copies of all records and documents necessary for the preparation by Husband and his accountant of Joint Federal and State Tax Returns (the Tax Returns) for the year ending _____. Parties acknowledge that the Tax Returns will be prepared soley under Husband’s direction and control.2. Wife shall immediately respond to any reasonable requests for information from the Husband or his accountant in the preparation of the Tax Returns. 3. Wife shall sign the Tax Returns immediately upon presentation to her. Such signing does not constitute an admission by Wife as to the accuracy of the Tax Returns. 4. In the event that the parties shall receive a Federal or State tax refund, the _____ shall immediately endorse the full amount of the tax refund check to the ______. 5. The Husband agrees to release, indemnify and hold harmless the Wife from any Federal or State claims, fines, liabilities, penalties and assessments arising out of the filing of the _____ Tax Returns, with the exception of any unreported income to the Wife that she failed to provide to Husband and his accountant in preparing the Tax Returns.6. The Husband shall pay all costs and fees of any administrative or judicial proceedings in connection with the filing of the Tax Returns. Be warned. Even if you have a Tax Indemnification Agreement it may not help you if your spouse files for bankruptcy. If you have doubts about the accuracy of your spouse’s, file separately. If you are still married at the end of the tax year (December 31) but separated and your spouse will not file a joint return how should you file? You must file either “Married filing separately” or as “Head of household” depending on your circumstances. Filing as “Head of household” has the following advantages: You can claim the standard deduction even if your spouse files a separate return and itemizes deductions. Your standard deduction is higher. Your tax rate may be lower. You may be able to claim additional credits such as the dependent care credit and earned income credit that you cannot claim if your status is “Married filing separately.” There are higher limits for child care credit, retirement savings contributions credit, itemized deductions. If you are still married by the end of the tax year you can file as “Head of household” if you satisfy the following requirements: You paid more than half the cost of maintaining your home for the tax year. Maintaining a home includes rent, mortgage, taxes, insurance on the home, utilities and food eaten in the home. Your spouse did not live with you for the last 6 months of the tax year. Your home was the main home of your child, step child or eligible foster child for more than half the year. You could claim a dependent exemption for the child. The other non-custodial spouse must then file as “Married filing separately.” Once you are divorced you may still file as “Head of household” if you paid more than half the cost of maintaining your home for the tax year and your children lived with you for more than half the tax year. There are different rules for filing as “Joint Custody of Head Household” and receiving a credit against California State taxes.7. If one spouse files “Married filing separately” do we take the standard deduction or can we itemize deductions? Consider this example. Bob who separated from Jackie but is still married at the end of 2005 decides to file “Married filing separately” in his 2005 taxes. He decides to itemize deductions which are considerable. Jackie his wife does not have large deductions and wants to take the standard deduction. The rule is that if Jackie qualifies as “Head of household” she can elect to take the standard deduction or itemize.8 If she does not qualify as “Head of household” and Bob itemizes she must also itemize even if she has limited deductions.9. This is true even if she files before Bob and claims a standard deduction. She will have to file an amended return when Bob claims itemized deductions. When the parties file separately who gets the mortgage interest deduction and property tax deductions? If the marital home is the separate property of one spouse they can claim the deductions. If the property is jointly owned, the spouse that actually pays the mortgage interest and property taxes is entitled to take the deductions. 10. Other expenses are deductible to the spouse to the extent that they are paid out of separate funds. If they are paid out of community funds each spouse can deduct one half of the interest and taxes. Who can claim the dependency exemption and the Child Tax Credit and the Child Care Credit? Generally, where the parties file separately it is the parent with whom the children have resided for the longest period of time during the tax year that can claim the dependency exemption and the Child Tax Credit ($1,000 for each child under 17).11. If the child lived with both parents for the same amount of time, the parent with the highest annual adjusted gross income gets to claim the child. It can therefore be important to keep a log of the actual amount of time the children spent with you. However, the non-custodial parent may take the exemption and the credit if the custodial parent signs an IRS Form 8332 “Release of Claim to Exemption of Divorced or Separated Parents” or a divorce decree or separation agreement releases the exemption and satisfies the wording of Form 8332. In California the court has the power to allocate the dependency deduction to the non-custodial parent. 12. It may do this to maximize support. The Child Tax credit can only be claimed by the parent who claims the dependency exemption. 13. Generally, whichever spouse is in the higher bracket should claim the exemption and compensate the other spouse for the shortfall. The Child Care credit can only be claimed by the custodial parent if the other parent is not a member of the household for the last 6 months of the tax year. 14. Unlike the dependency exemption it cannot be traded although you may claim the credit even if the dependency exemption has been allocated to the other parent. Footnotes1. Are You Speaking About Your Personal Experience With God or Someone Else’s Experience?

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By Les Herron The other day I drove through the Jack in the Box on the corner of Airtex Dr. and I-45 like I do way too often. In perfect English I said ‘Ill have a number 8, small with a Diet Coke’. Repeated back to me through the speaker was a ‘So, you want a?’ and it was completely wrong. As she repeated the order back to me it was wrong for 4-times in a variety of ways. Unbeknownst to myself I responded back in an increasingly loud and strong voice. After the girl repeated my order properly back to me I began to pull forward and my often annoyingly right 16-year old said ‘Wow! You spoke harsh to her.’ Of course, I denied it and replied that I am a loud talker and enunciated my words clearly for her to better understand me. I drove up to the window and the girl apologized; and then apologized again; and then said she was sorry 3-more times. I blurted out ‘You dont have to keep apologizing; you did just fine!’ And I probably sounded harsh. But I was not mad and I was not mean. Trust me because Ive been furious before and demanded to be heard by the manager (hard to believe a mellow, low key lad like myself). Everybody would agree I should get better service than I got at the Box; however, what would have been this girls response had she known I was the pastor of the church just down the street? She probably would not have called me on my attitude but what could have been lost that day? I could not have told her Im sorry or that Im a strong talker or that I was not mad; she would have already made her decision by the tone of my voice. Testimony: giving witness or evidence, proclamation of personal experience,and/or certification of what one has seen, heard, or knows. My testimony is my story of what God did in me, what He is doing now in me, and what He promises to do in the future in me. It is Gods design that I share this personal journey of mine and not the words of a preacher of the last sermon I heard. So, when I blow it and my character does not reflect His then it shows the world my warts and what God wants to work on right now. My testimony is not something silent inside or something shared in the front of a group of church people. My testimony is loud, personal, real, and verifiable through what I say and do. This all leads me to Victoria Osteen being removed from that airplane at the airport in Houston some time ago because she became upset enough to throw a fit. It sounds like Victoria made a mistake, lost her composure, and in doing so exposed what God wants to work in and through her now. As one who gives a testimony of God we must always keep in mind that we are not what we preach but rather how we live. If you are on stage then be sure that the stage and the cameras and the media show a false part of who you are because the media is completely controlled and magnificently contrived. The brilliance of stage lights is nothing compared to the brilliance of the false image that is portrayed to millions across the globe. Give her a break and realize that she is in one gigantic, magnified fish bowl. The church culture in this generation is brutal to the leaders and the brutality is magnified when media is involved. When was the last time you blew it with your attitude? One part of it is really quite funny and encouraging when you close your eyes and imagine fashionably decked out, friendly, wealthy, and successful Victoria throwing a fit of any kind. It is enjoyable to see that the Osteen’s are pretty much just like the rest of us (which they are, by the way!) and must deal with life. Another part of it is bizarre because when did someone getting asked to leave an airplane become the latest breaking news? Another part of this is sad as Christians who already do not like Lakewood rejoice in this negative exposure as if they are then justified in the negative they believe and say about Joel. But hey, enough about Victoria and back to what God is doing in you and me! It really is not a matter of losing my testimony (or yours) but rather realizing that the mistakes are my testimony. Did you hear that? The mistakes are my testimony. Moving through and beyond the mistakes I make is what God is doing in my life. The Jack in the Box experience did not end that day because the next week I began to hand out invitations for a church production to everyone I met and I thought ‘What would have this girl thought had I handed her two tickets to church after I spoke to her the way I did?’ And it made me think that my attitude, the tone of my voice, and the way I carry myself should reflect what He did, is doing, and is going to do in and through me. Are you speaking to others about your personal experience with God? Are you letting your actions and your attitude speak just as loud or louder?
